About Us

Welcome to BBLRC. We’re a relatively small club compared to others on the Thames. Thanks to commitment of Captains and Coaching Team we have been very successful in both Regattas and Head races. We welcome rowers of all ages and welcome both experienced and beginner oarswomen.

We have had success at Women’s Henley, winning Senior 4x in 2010, in the finals for Intermediate 4+ in 2011, then winning in the Club Intermediate 4+ in 2012. We’ve also had success at Met Regatta winning in Intermediate 4+ in 2012 and 2016.

We are one of only two women only clubs in the UK. What this means in practical terms is that the club has a fleet of boats and oars that are all designed or set up specifically for female rowers. No HUGE boats with equally huge shoes at BBLRC. We do share our boathouse with Cygnet RC and often join forces for mixed races, both fun and serious.

We are continuously updating our fleet.  In 2016 we purchased a Filippi 2x and refurbed club single, in  2015 a F19 Filippi 8+ to join our Hudson and two training Sims 8s. But it’s not all about the big boats. Virtually all the clubs members are active rowers or scullers so we can be dynamic and flexible as needs arise. Every week sees both scullers and sweep rowers out on the water and we have an excellent variety of club boats to meet all needs.

If you are an experienced rower – be it senior or novice – we will fit you into our normal outings based on your experience and take it from there. If you’re interested in joining please contact us.

If you have never rowed before we do run special courses for complete novices, Get fit and row.  If you’d like to find out more read on.

Off the water, there is an ongoing land training programme. As a minimum we expect all squad members to complete the weekly erg to be prioritised for water outings.  Land training includes rowing specific circuit training run just for the club through the winter season. We have our very own gym on site ‘The Shed’, use of which is fully included in your membership fees and access to a rowing training tank.

It’s also important to mention the bar & social side of life! From the weekly Thursday night post outing dinner in the bar when someone takes it in turn to cook, to monthly Sunday pub lunches to the big annual gatherings for Henley Royal Regatta or the Christmas Party, there is always something to look forward to both on and off the water.

We hope to hear from you soon.
