| Our
boats.
The club has 15 boats in
its fleet, with a total of 50 seats, excluding coxes. A brand new Filippi
coxless 4 -/x is our latest acquisition.
The fleet comprises an Empacher 1x, two Filippi's, a couple of Sims Evolution 8's, as
well as the ubiquitous Janousek's. We also have our own coaching launch.
The fleet is made up of:
2 x 8's (Sims
Evolution's)
6 x 4's (inc. a brand new Filippi 4 -/x in 11/06)
3 x 2 -/x (inc. a Filippi with carbon riggers)
4 x 1x (inc. an Empacher)
Being a Womens rowing
club, ALL our boats are built to accommodate the lighter bodies of female
rowers and have shoes that fit the smaller feet found on "most"
ladies. No more pulling in up to your chin or having to wear several pairs
of socks in order to keep yourself in the shoes.
We also have modern blades including Vortex Smoothies. |

| The
boathouse.
It was built in the 1930's,
and has been updated over time.
The boat shed is on the top floor, allowing access out onto the boating
area, with all the club facilities on the (sub) ground floor. Access to
the main entrance door is down the steps to the garden level and in the
blue door on your left.
All the crew boats and a
large number of private singles are housed in the main boat shed. At the
back of the boathouse by the training shed is outside racking for a further
12 singles. It is proposed in 2007 to add a further 12 singles racks.
As well as BBLRC, there is another club who live at the boathouse, Cygnet
RC. Although nominally a mixed club, it is in reality a men's club, with
the "odd" female member as cox and / or coach.
There is a large boating
area immediately to the front of the boathouse, and at low tide, we
actually have our own beach.
There is ample room to easily boat 2 x 4's at the same time at high tide,
and as many boats as you want at low tide.
One of the hidden treasures of our boathouse is the garden. It is
virtually hidden from view on all sides and is a fantastic spot for a bit
of after outing relaxation and the scene of many impromptu BBQ's.
Inside the boathouse, as well as large changing rooms with all the obvious
facilities such as showers, toilets and lockers, we have a fully fitted
kitchen that is often put to good use. Free tea and coffee is always
available.
There is also a "club room" with sofa beds (for keen people who
want to have early morning outings...) and a TV.
Finally, there is of
course, the BAR. This has recently been updated (although looking at those
chairs, you could call me a liar) and it is fair to say, it does gets a
lot of usage. Our most recent acquisition is a thing called a *Giraffe.
This is proving very popular.
There is ample parking on
Dukes Meadows and there is a secure bar attached to the side of the
boathouse for locking pushbikes to.
STOP PRESS.
The Boathouse now has WiFi Broadband for members to use. Turn up early,
check your e-mails, have a cup of tea, and then think about doing some
training. |

| Training
SHED.
This was purpose built in
2004 and has 80 square metres of space to train in. It has enabled us to
improve our fitness and therefore competitiveness. In the season just
finished, the 2 clubs combined won over 40 events.
It contains 8 Concept 2 ergo's as well as a variety of weight machines and
brand new Olympic size free weights.
Club members have unlimited
use of the land training facilities as part of their membership fee. |

|
| The
Ute
The Ute
(so called as we have a few Southern Hemisphere members) is used to tow
our boats to and from away regatta's. It is also available for hire to
members for a small daily fee.
Anyone who has a an
appropriate license can use the UTE, and if they want to, help tow our
trailer to away events.
Although not in its first flush of youth, it is loved by all who travel in
her. |
